On the Census, the enumerator jobs in Georgia range from $13 - $24/hr. In my area, about $15. Go five miles towards Atlanta and the rate is around $20/hr. I'm not seeing why such a differential. These are 2-5 month temp jobs that require certain skills. I'd guess many minimum wage earners wouldn't have the skills.
Article in the AJC that uses, in part, one of Keith's original links. I'm satisfied for the west coast and some liberal municipal enclaves to experiment with doubling the minimum wage. The living wage is a different deal.
