The "redneck vote" was a term employed by the leadership of the fundamentalist network for those pastors who served rural churches. Such pastors were usually bivocational and not college educated. The fundamentalist leadership viewed those people as being easily manipulated. Also, they did not have to be rewarded for their loyalty. All you needed to turn them out to vote was to push the right emotional buttons. The word "liberal" was one of their buttons.
