I heard today about the death of E. Frank Tupper. I only had one class with Dr. Tupper but I had the greatest respect for him and his ministry. May he rest in peace and rise in glory!

I was in my M.Div. when Frank was working on his doctorate. I have always been impressed with him as a scholar and as a person. It's sad to lose one so gifted, but he leaves behind a good legacy.

Tupper did a weekend seminar at our church back at least 25 years ago after his wife died. He impressed many.
He was an early adopter of what Dr. Thomas Oord calls as well as Pinnock's, etal. although not by those names. He believed that God could not have spared the life of his wife. His loving nature prevented His interfering with or coercing anything about earthly affairs. He acts only thorough persuasion. This is spelled out in his book “A Scandalous Providence” (1995).
My very good friend Jan Johnson (who will be coming over to play cards in about 90 minutes) frequently mentions these Tupper’s views favorably. I'll have to tell her about Frank's passing. My pastor (Dr. David Freeman) also praises Tupper from his days in SBTS (though not too quick to affirm (or disaffirm) the Open View let alone Essential Kenosis).

Since my personal experience is closer to an ineluctable Divine intervention in my life (miracle healing stuff) than to "through persuasion only", I find myself a priori a doubter in this arena. But I just ordered a copy of The Openness of God and also a little book titled That Which Divides Us: Seven Essential and Controversial Issues in Christianity — along, of course, with a couple of AME hymnals... Will let you know, if and when I get around to reading them.

Bean pays magnificent Tribute
All of you must read it, even Thornton, and he should read it most carefully and maybe just maybe do it justice at SBC Voices.
