As I'm sure Timothy can tell us more about, the Methodists (Protestant, Episcopal, or both, I'm not sure) had a passel of circuit riders in the wuntsaponna time, too. But it didn't have the same effect.

Very interesting, Timothy. I hadn't heard about that sort of current Methodist clergy.

I have met some of the licensed pastors, and we have had a few serve in our area. They are generally good people with limited qualifications, but they often fit well in churches who could never support a higher level of compensation. I have also seen the nightmares of a circuit. When I was in Grayson County, Virginia, we had a young clergy couple serving adjoining five church circuits. Together, they served ten congregations, some as often as every Sunday and some in as limited a capacity as once monthly. I can't imagine the stress of that diversified a ministry.
