Bahamian Baptists

Yesterday, the reports were out that CBF Florida and the Baptist World Alliance have both been unsuccessful in reaching members of leadership among Bahamian Baptists on Grand Bahama Island. While it may certainly be a communication problem, there is uncertainty about church buildings and leadership. Be praying for our brothers and sisters on the islands. It is hoped that church contacts can be made for involvement in relief and recovery efforts.

There are lots of fears, because the death toll is rising. I hope the Lord has protected the Baptists there, but no one knows as yet.

Ed: Note: As of Tuesday, the Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not put in a formal request for TPS, a government spokeswoman said.

“It’s a bit early. We are trying to regroup and make sure everybody is OK,” she said. “Then we’ll get to that.”

The importance of contact with Baptist churches and leaders is in the hope of being able to assist them in ministering to the masses of people in need and in getting resources in their hands to help with the massive task of rebuilding and relocating so many people.

I'd be curious to know where the Southern Baptist disaster relief equipment is being deployed, if it is. Most of that stuff is on trailers that would have to be shipped over. Our kids at school, many of whom are Puerto Rican and have relatives still recovering from Maria, wanted to start raising money right away. We'll connect with a church group of some sort if we can.

BGR can put enormous resources in a disaster area rapidly. I think the various NGOs work together.

For us disasters SBC disaster relief is usually ahead of even the Red Cross.
