No, that is just Bunning being Bunning, Dave.
Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT a Republican apologist - far from it, but Bunning was, oh how shall I put this delicately, somewhat of an unsavory character when he played ball. Yes, he is in the Hall of Fame, but he did not get there because he was a nice guy or that he really had HoF stats. In fact, he got in on a recommendation and vote by the Veteran's committee after the commensurate long wait. If you are not "up" on HoF politics, it would be an interesting education for you. There are many knowledgeable baseball-types who say that Bunning's HoF vote was a mistake, but it can't be rescinded. Stats almost identical to Mike Mussina and no one is saying Mussina is HoF material.
Yes, he did have two no-hitters, one of those being a perfect game. Other than that, he had very average stats, decent speed and, a good spitter.
He's always been surly, and since he alienated even his own home electorate this cycle and decided not to run after his numbers got lower than the average low temp in Enid during January, he just doesn't really care anymore, IMO. He has the political intelligence of a fungo.
